Dentures
Dentures are custom-made dental appliance that can replace missing teeth and the surrounding tissues. These are natural looking, fresh-coloured acrylic base that can be removed and placed as and when needed. Dentures are retained with dental implants and provide support and stability while biting and chewing. Securing dentures with dental implants is a top choice among patients these days and it’s offered at our dental office in Mississauga.
Types of Dentures
There are two types of dentures- complete and partial dentures.
Complete dentures: When all your teeth have to be removed, we recommend opting for complete dentures. Complete dentures can be either conventional or immediate. Conventional dentures are applied when the teeth have been removed and the gum tissues have completely healed. This usually takes 4-6 weeks and you’ll have to be toothless during this time. Immediate complete dentures are applied immediately after the teeth removal, so that you don’t have to spend any time without teeth. This process usually takes months for healing and once the tissues shrink and heal, certain adjustments are done by our dentist.
Partial Dentures: When not all your teeth need to removed, partial dentures should be applied to fill in the spaces created. Partial dentures prevent other teeth from shifting but don’t prevent bone loss.
Proper cleaning of your dentures, maintaining a good oral health, and regular visits to your dentist will speed the recovery process and add life to the new dentures.
