What is Bruxism?
Bruxism is the medical term for teeth grinding or clenching. This often occurs during deep sleep or while under stress in adults and children.
Many cases go undetected with no adverse effects, while others cause headaches or earaches.
Nighttime grinding and clenching can wear down tooth enamel, chip teeth, cause tooth sensitivity, and severe facial pain and jaw problems, such as temporomandibular joint disease (TMD).
Custom-fitted nightguards and mouthguards
If you suspect that you or your children clench or grind your teeth, consult with Dr. Caminschi at her Mississauga dental office. She can perform an evaluation to evaluate the extent of wear and tear on your teeth, gums and jaw. In many cases, wearing a custom mouthguard or nightguard is a successful therapy to stop the side-effects of bruxism. Wearable day or night, a custom-fitted nightguard acts as a bumper guard, absorbing the force of the clenching or grinding. Protect your teeth and your smile, give us a call today!
